The german regulations don't consider, Mother and Father as Family. So when we see an option in German embassy or german foreign offices. The Family means just ur spouse or you children.
This got me confused for a long time, however the process of applying for a visit/tourist/multi-entry visa is equally confusing. I want to put together my experience with this process and help people out there, who are in similar phase of their life.
The required documents are from the german embassy in kathmandu:
1. Valid passport
2. Schengen visa application
3. Citizenship
4. passport copy
5. Travel health insurance
6. Flight reservation
7. Proof of accomodation
8. information regarding your visa situation, if you have traveled to schengen area before then a copy of it.
9. for minors (children)
10. invitation letter with itenary
11. leave certificate if employed, NOC if student, pension documents if retired.
12. proof of sufficient fund. 3-4 lakhs should suffice
13. VE
14. Regidence permit
15. Pension
16. bank statement of 6months
17. civil status
18. Biometric photos
I have divided the process into 2, Germany process and Nepal process:
German process: (13,5,7)
13. Verpflichtungserklärung-
This document is the alpha of the wolf pack, the most important and most sought after document during this process. People even say that all the other documents are secondary and could be arranged after you have this document. As for the planning section, you need to know that this document should be sent to you Nepal in original format, so plan the freight cost or plan in such a way that you have some one flying to ur Nepal after you get this document. I had similar plans to send it with someone i knew, flying at this time, but didnt work out as planned.
Brief mit Enschreibung- If you are also in the similar situation, plan for sending this document in original through DHL or FEDx. I choose DHL, the magic word is "express: Brief mit einschreibung", meaning i want to send a registered letter and that too express. This will take a little more than 3 days and will set u back by 84€ @2023. This is a small price to pay for the fast service you get. And when sending this document to Nepal, we put in the home address as we would do in Germany. The only difference is we will get a call in Nepal, when the package is out for delivery. They call u up and ask for specific directions to reach u. During letter submisson in Germany only thing different is the letter should also contain the recievers, Name address and also phone number. (and ofcouse u pay seemingly unreasonable amout of money for a piece of paper)
Application for VE- Applying for a VE can be different for different states in Germany, however the basic structure remains the same. Price for this application process s 29€ @2023. This would mean, you go into the portal of ur city foreign office "Ausländerbehörde" and fill in the necessary information about you, person you are calling and upload some documents. For my case all of the process was online and payment was also possible online. I only had to go to the office to pick up the VE. Docuemnts required are:
a. 6 months payslip (Gehaltsabrechnung/ Lohnabrechnung) not kontoauszug (Bank statement)-
c. Passport information of your parents, no copy needed just the passport number.
d. What job do you do in germany should also be described.
(Note: you only need to apply for a single person and spend 29€ and attach the infromation of people accompaning him/her in the trip. I applied for my mom and dad, filled a form for my dad and attached information of my mom in the same form, similar to a plus 1 feature.
5. Health insurance-
I registered for a health insurance for more than the required amount of covering $30,000. which only costed around 2€ per day.
7. Proof of accomodation-
Here we need to be careful, we ought to have a big room if we want to call our parents. An appartment under 30m2 is not sufficient. There is this unwritten rule of the need being 12.5 m2 for each addition of person with minimum of 24m2. So if you want to call both of your parents= 24m2 (yourself) + 12m2 (dad) +12m2 (mom)= 48m2 in total.
Nepal process:
1. Valid passport: fairly simple and take equivalent nepali rupees for the required application fee of 80€ @2023.
2. Schengen visa application: If you are in situation similar to me, it is most likely that you would want to fill up the application form for ur parents youself. I tried doing that, but something didnt go right. My parents went in with the form that i filled in and got informed that it was the wrong form and were hinted to get the new form from the cyber nearby which costed us 5000 rupees. My suggestion would be to get the form from the embassy before hand and do not get the online available forms.
3. Citizenship: fairly simple
4. passport copy: do not stapple the papers rather use clip pins.
6. Flight reservation: just an itenary is enough.
8. Information regarding your visa situation, if you have traveled to schengen area before then a copy of it.
9. for minors (children)
10. invitation letter with itenary: This would state you official invitation stating the passport numbers of your parents and also reasoning behind the timing, if 2 months why, if in particular month why. This should also include a rough itenary of, where do you want to go on which date. For my case it was My graduation on 13th may 2023, and Paris air show between 19th to 25 June.
11. leave certificate if employed, NOC if student.
12. proof of sufficient fund. 3-4 lakhs should suffice. Better not to show too much money here, this would raise question regarding tax payment and source of income.
14. Regidence permit: this would be case dependent, if you have a PR or Blue card then this would look better, however normal regidence permit should work as well.
15. Pension: this gives them a strong reasoning to return. As from my knowledge, many visa applications are rejected as they dont find a strong reason that the applicants would come back to Nepal.
16. bank statement of 6months: fairly simple
17. civil status: if married then marriage certificate.
18. Biometric photos: fairly simple.
